13 Top Wooden Bunk Bed with Desk and Drawers - I want to build a queen size bed for a friend using my plans. And I picked up most of the lumber from the Home Depot with my car. Now the plans actually call for a lot of 2 by 4's and even 2 by 3's, but I actually bought mostly 2 by 10's, just because that way I got much better quality lumber. I'll start by making the side rails and I want to use some of the nicest looking lumber for that, because that's the most viable. And that side rail needs to be 7 inches wide. You heard that right, 7 inches. I'm actually using inches for this project. These big planer shavings sure fill up a dust collector fast. Now that I have the pieces planed, I can cut them to length. Now I need to glue on this rail, here and that will later support the slats. Now for the legs I need a whole bunch of pieces that are 2 1/2 inches wide. But, I'll cut these to a little bit wider from here so I can trim them down later. Now I'm gonna join the leg pieces together and here's my long piece and this goes here, and this goes here. These 2 boards are gonna form the headboard with the posts on either side, like here and like here. And I want to give this a bit of a nice profile, so I modified the CAD model and freed up the template for this, and I'm just gonna trace that through, by outlining those lines with a carpenter's pencil. And that will leave a mark on the wood. For the mirror image, I'm tracing my pattern through the back. I'm just using a strip of wood to smooth out between the place that I traced through. Now, I'm just gonna round-over the edges before I put the headboard together. So, here's my glued headboard legs and I could smooth the joints out with a hand plane, but I'll just do it on my jointer. Here is roughly what my headboard is gonna go together like this.

I'm gonna cut the slats on my slot mortiser which I haven't been using that much since I built the pantorouter. But, this machine does slot mortises really well. I just transferred all the mortise locations for the rails. Now I can also cut those on my slot mortiser. I'm gluing blocks of wood between the slats and that will keep them from sliding around. I'm cutting down the slats in thickness towards the ends, which will allow them to rest a bit lower on the frame. And it also makes up for any differences in thickness in the scrap wood that I'm using. Before gluing it together, I'm rounding over all the exposed edges. Well, that took some fast action with the clamps and some hard pounding to get that joint fully closed. I guess that's certainly a problem you could avoid, if you just used pocket holes. After that, I varnished all the pieces, but it was pretty boring so I didn't take video of that. Headboards are almost always pushed against the wall so I cut out this corner here, for a baseboard and cord around.

White Wooden Bunk Bed With Storage Today we’re going to be taking a look at some of the production of a Cedar Lake Flat Top Spindle Log Bed. We’re going to skip the hand peeling portion of the building process and move right into the actual construction of the bed. Here we see Tom as he is setting up the flat top of the bed. He’s going to be drilling out the mortises for the tenons of the spindles. After the first hole is drilled it is then checked for accuracy to make sure the depth and everything is correct. Here we can see the drill getting adjusted so that the correct depth is established for the drilling. Multiple measurements are taken throughout the whole processto ensure that everything is accurate for easy assembly. The tops are drilled. Let’s move over to the legs. We’re going to speed this portion up. The legs are hand peeled and then they’re all gone over with a palm sander to make sure that all of the rough spots or anything that may snag is smoothed out and cleaned up. Once the palm sanding is done, it’s gone over by hand, touching each portion of the log to make sure that it is totally smooth and ready for the next step of production. Here are the finished legs. You can see how there’s still a lot of character in the logs but they’re much smoother. No sharp edges where the branches used to be. The last step in the production process is drilling the holes in the legs for the side rails and for the horizontal logs of the headboard and footboard. Each hole is carefully drilled and then checked and double checked to make sure that it was drilled correctly and evenly. Now we move back to the flat tops that were drilled and the spindles are then inserted. We’ll go ahead and speed this part of the video up as all that is being done is the spindles are being inserted. Then you can see Tom as he lines them up so the most unique characteristics will be on the outside of the bed. Once all the spindles are in, then the bottom horizontal rail is attached. It has to be lined up on each spindle and then it will be tapped down and secured. As you can see, this is a time consuming, and I wouldn’t say exactly fun, job of lining all the little pegs up and pounding them in. You can rest assured that this will be done for you when you receive the bed. All the headboards and footboards are fully assembled. So the log is on, the last few taps will be made. Everything will be double checked, measured to make sure that everything is exactly the way it should be for the next step.

The next step is attaching the legs to the headboard and footboard. The first leg goes on pretty smoothly. Putting the opposite side leg on is always a little more difficult. Everything was lined up perfect on the opposite end. That usually throws the second end out of whack so great care is taken in getting everything lined up so the leg sits flush with the flat top of the bed. You can see Tom here works on it quite a bit just to get it perfect. Wood Bunk Bed With Desk And Drawers The legs will come attached to the headboards and footboards so you won’t have to worry about assembling it yourself. Once the legs are attached, the headboards and footboards are then carried over and as you’ll see in the next step the bed will be dry assembled to ensure that everything was made correctly. For dry assembly the side rails are attached to the headboard and footboard. Measurements are then taken between the side rails to determine the exact size of the support rails for the mattress and box springs. After those parts are cut, and the bed is totally assembled, it will then be unassembled and go in for finishing. 10 Wooden Triple Bunk Beds for Adults Designs - The hardware for our bed is sourced from the big box store. Nothing fancy but I do have carriage bolts, washers and some threaded rod. We're going to make some modifications to this hardware to make it more appropriate for our application. First we're going to paint the carriage bolt heads matte black. A quick file. A little sanding. And some paint is all it takes to transform the bolt heads into something that doesn't look awful. Next we need to flatten out one end of our washers using the grinder. This will make for a better fit in the flat bottomed nut access holes and since so many of you got a kick out of this last time will say it once again, nut access holes. To give the washer a curved profileI am using a small press that I made from scrap wood.Finally the threaded rod needs to be cut to size using a hack saw. The center support rail is held by a modified French. This is made from few pieces of scrap with the center piece receiving a slight angled cut. The center rail itself will receive a series of notches to accept the cross supports. The notches are made at the table saw using a quick jig that resembles a box joint jig. When it's all said and done it should look something like this. It's pretty cool. The ends of the rail receive a notch and the French cleat angle is chiseled by hand for a perfect fit. Beauty. The brackets are then glued and screwed to the foot board and head board.Alright let's see how this works. It should be a snug fit. The key is to get both sides in at the same time. There we go. I like it. For the maple support slats, I'm cutting notches that will meet perfectly with the center support notches. The maple pieces simply drop in place resting on the center support and the side rails. And speaking of rest, I was ready for a nice nap by this point. For additional support I'm making two block feet that will sit under the center rail as you see here. With all of the wood working done, the only thing left to do is scrape and sand. For the customer requested oil finish, the wood is sanded all the way to 320 grit.

The finish will be pure tongue oil diluted 50% with mineral spirits and heated with a double boiler hot plate setup. I'm not a huge fan of pure oil finishes but this is what the customer wants. For the rest of the day I will come back and check on the piece and wipe back any standing oil. Now it's time for assembly. The footboard is assembled the same way, join the sidepanel to the two legs, and add the cap. next, join the headboard and footboard using the rails that form the sides of the bed. Make sure you DON’T glue these, just attach with screws so you can disassemble later to apply the finish. With those in place, add the cleats that will support the slats for the mattress. And then add the slats themselves. Next, the stairs. Cut the stringers or sides and glue and screw first the vertical pieces, then the tops, and the back panel. The handrail is added last, but don’t glue this so it can be removed to make painting the stairs easier. While you have access to the underside of the stairs, reinforce them by driving screws through the vertical stair pieces into the treads. Slide the stairs into position to check for fit…then disassemble the loft so you can apply the finish of your choice – it also makes it a lot easier to transport into a room when it’s in pieces. reassemble the loft and let your kids loose. This is one of the easiest types of cushions to sew, it does not have a zipper or Velcro opening, but is simply sewn shut. To get started we first need to do some patterning on our decorative fabric. Cushions have a top and bottom plate and boxing on the sides. Two guidelines for patterning will be shown in this video. First let’s discuss the requirements for a French Mattress Style Cushion filled with fiber. Determine the size of the cushion you want and the thickness. The cut top and bottom plate needs to be 1 ¾” larger than the desired finished size of your cushion. See our example in yellow here. This seals the edge of the synthetic fabric preventing the unraveling of the fabric. We are cutting on top of a metal ruler to prevent damage to the table top below the hot knife. Our two plates and 4 boxing strips are now cut to size and ready for sewing. We have now covered patterning for a cushion filled with fiberfill let’s move on and touch on how to pattern for a French Mattress style cushion filled with a sheet of foam. To cut plates for this simply add ¾ inch on all sides. To cut the boxing to width use the foam thickness and add 1 inch then add between ¼” to ¾” for seam allowance. This will result in a cover that compresses the foam slightly making it look great! The length of the boxing should equal the sides of the plates. If you’re making a cushion using a sheet of foam skip this chapter.

To make this we will use Spun Bonded Pillow Protector fabric. This fabric is inexpensive, breathable, water repellent and soft. As you can see we will get two plates and 4 boxing strips all at once when we cut it out. No reason to use a hot knife on this Spun Bonded fabric as it does not unravel. We now have all the plates and boxing strips cut for our cushion in both the decorative fabric and the Spun Bonded Pillow Protector Fabric. It is always a good idea to lay the fabric panels out in an organized fashion before sewing. This reduces the chance of mistakes experientially. No matter if you are making a cushion filled with fiberfill, as we are, or a sheet of foam the construction is the same for both. Strat with the boxing and lay the corresponding boxing strip onto of the opposite leg so outside surfaces are facing each other. Then sew the two strips together along the short end with a straight stitch about 3/8 inch inside the raw edges of the fabric. Be sure to do some reverse stitching at the beginning and end of your stitch to lock the stitch in place. Take the assembly over to the where the panels are laid out and grab the corresponding boxing strip and repeat the process. Always go back to the panels as they lay on the table and check to be sure strips are running the correct direction and also that they will line up to the plates, along the two sides that is, as it is impossible for
them to line up along the other two sides.

Be sure the outside surfaces are facing each other and sew along the end that completes the chain. We will not show sewing that. To do this line up the plate so the strips will match on the two sides they matched for the other plate. Be sure outside surfaces are facing each other.

Then position the assembly so the stitch starts about a half inch away from the side’s corner and about 3/8 inch away from the folded edge. To keep the first seam centered correctly, sew a few inches then bury the needle make adjustments to the assembly and repeat. When you reach the next corner, stop about a half inch away and do some reversing. To move onto the next edge we will not even cut the trailing threads. We will simply remove the needle from the fabric, lift the foot, reposition the assembly just as we did earlier and sew onto the next corner. All Modern Bed Frames Design - I got this picture printed out years and years ago. It's from where I grew up and in this video I'm finally gonna make a frame for it. I rough pre cut this cut here on the band saw because this piece is only long enough if I fully use both pieces. And this way I can kinda see how its gonna work out. If I hadn't pre-cut that like that once I cut the molding I have to cut the miters like that. And at that point it wouldn't be long enough for both sides anymore. I'm thinking I should add a bevel to the inside edge here to make it taper in towards the picture but the other idea is to just take these pieces of wood and bevel them like this. And that just means cutting a bevel on the back. And I need to decorate this profile a little bit. And I'll do that by cutting a cove like this on the table saw. Here's the cove cut without any sanding yet. It came out very clean because, as usual, I have a trick up my sleeve. So, two things I did is I tilted the blade this way a little bit so as I'm feeding this way I'm feeding into the top of the teeth. The other trick is I started with a junk blade and actually rounded the tops of all these teeth by grinding away the alternating points. It looks fairly nice so far but I want some kind of visible edge on this frame. My thinking is I want some kind of sharp edge here. So, I'm thinking I'm gonna cut in like this and then a curve like so. And I'll try to approximate that with the table saw. With just a few cuts in the table saw that already looks like a convex round. But it actually has corners. And I'll try to smooth those over with a hand plane. With a ledge cut for the picture I'm ready to cut miters into these.  And for that purpose I built myself a miter slide.

And by clamping these to the edge of the frame I can concentrate on getting just one joint at a time lined up perfectly. Now I just gotta do that with glue. I got a nice little cavity for a screw head to really hook onto now. I think a bit of a dark bluish tinge will go well with that picture I have of the spring. I giving this several coats of water-based Varathane. And that will seal it give it gloss and protect the paint I just put on it. I'm just gonna put some nails to hold the back plywood in. It feels really manly pushing those nails in with my bare hands but I did pre-drill the holes. I am quite pleased with how this molding came out. And it was done almost entirely on the table saw. So I ended up drilling two holes in two studs. And I put holes off-center in the picture. So that way I could hang it off the studs. And get it exactly where I want it. And it doesn't go back and forth.

If you don't have that and you live in the United States, both big box home improvement stores will be able to cut these dimensions for you. What is the project? Having the bad side down good side up won't hurt and some blue tape will help out some as well. If you take a two by four. Rip it in half on the table saw. You have the ledges that I will attach to the side rails and foot board stretcher. Word of caution here. Be sure you know which side gets the short end of the stick. Now is when you pick left and right. If you have any glue squeeze out, damp cloth and a flat head screwdriver works. You can also wait for the glue to dry a little and then peel it off. That doesn't work for me, I always forget about it and come back to completely dry glue for which I always curse at myself for, and to be honest if I got to put another quarter in that (beep) swear jar I will. Ohhh Man! Iron on edge banding hides the ugly.

I am going to use an oscillating multitool to cut the recesses for the cross brace mattress supports. If you decide to cut these before you attach them to the side rails, I would recommend cutting them before you rip the two by four in half. 15 Current Designs of Queen Size Bed Frame with Drawers - Rachel's been wanting to organize this space a little bit more and we both figured a tall dresser with a lot of drawers would really help that. All those drawers unfortunately required a lot of wood. So I gathered a whole lot of material from the garbage. And hopefully that'll be enough. Seven drawer fronts. Now I just need backs and sides. Seven backs. Seven fronts. Fourteen sides. And I was able to cut fairly efficiently so I have very little scrap. And some material still left over. I need to join the sides of the drawers to the front somehow so I have a bit of overhang on this side for the front of the drawer. To kind of hide the sliders. And traditionally this is often done with a sliding dovetail joint. Like so, where it slides into the bottom. But This is very vulnerable. Because this part here can break off easily. So, the way I'm gonna join these is with a multiple dowel joint like so, except these aren't separate dowels. These are actually integral to the drawer's side. And we're gonna cut these with a pantorouter. I first cut these cone dowel templates round on the band saw. And then I made a jig to precisely sand them on the belt sander. And now I'm going to screw them to the back of my multiple dowel template. It took a bit of tweaking but now I have my dowel template set up to cut 4 dowels on the end of the stock. Next I need to drill some holes in the drawer foots for these dowel ends to fit in, like so. And for that I've made a drilling template plus another piece of wood to help me position that exactly where I want it from the edge.

How To Make A Queen Size Bed Frame With Drawers And now I just need to clamp that in place. I have it set up to work from the very corner of the Hillcrest table because these clamps can get in the way and this way I can barely clear the clamps and drill in here. The alignment isn't perfect. But with a few taps of the hammer it goes in anyways. Here is one of my drawers test assembled so far. I've got the front and the sides. Now I just need to join the back on here somehow. And I'm going to keep this relatively simple. I'm just going to use a box joint, like this one to join the back. I'll be cutting the box joints on my pantorouter XL and I've got a box chart template in here, which allows me to make a vertical series of cuts with the router byte following these slots here. And I've got a sacrificial piece of wood here to prevent chipout on the bottom. The stock goes on top of that. And I'm gonna use the plunge backstop as the stop on how far the stock needs to go back on here. And I've got another sacrificial piece of wood to go on top of here. to rent chip out on top. Couple of things about using a pantorouter. A variable speed router would be much better. This unfortunately is fixed. Because doing side-grain cuts for stuff like this or tenants the bit cuts really easily and if you slow it down it doesn't make as much noise. and it doesn't make as much dust in the air. Also, when cutting these box joints, it's much better to cut from below because that throws all the dust down.

Before starting to assemble the drawers, I need to route a groove in the bottom of the front for bottom to fit into. You'll see how that fits later. Got my 7 drawer fronts and sides glued together. Now, I've just got to make the backs. Got my drawers fronts backs, and sides all glued together. And before I start making bottoms for them. I'm gonna try and make some veneers from the front using this mahogany that used to be an old desktop. The yield from that desktop wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. Partially 'cause it was reinforced with dowels where the boards met. And it was warped. And then Some of this has got the slots cut in the bottom. And it wasn't quite long enough for 2 lengths. So I'm gonna have to do a lot of splicing. But I cut into 3 layers instead of 2. So hopefully I'll have enough for all 7 drawers. I took the varnish off the front of the drawer with a hand plane. For gluing the veneers on. And I also smoothed the back of the veneer with a hand plane. Just to smooth out the band saw cuts. I use a piece of carpeting to make sure I get pressure... on the whole face of the drawer. I have 2 drawers left to do. And I have 1 piece of paneling left. And that's enough for 1 drawer. But if I put it on there like so. And then if I join another piece of scrap on there. Then I've got enough width on here to make 2 drawers. Some of my veneers unfortunately have some screw holes. And I can use a plug cutter like this to make plugs like this to fill those in but The smallest one I've got is 3/8th of an inch in size. And I'd rather keep these plugs small to keep them inconspicuous. I used my pantorouter to make some 1/4 inch plugs. So using these plugs should be very inconspicuous. Got my 7 drawers made. Hopefully making the rest of that dresser won't take quite as long.

20 Most Creative Rustic Modern Wooden Bed Designs - Now look, forget the jocks and the socks because today's project I think would be a really good gift idea, and it's going to be very simple to make. And, of course, it's going to be rustic. Everything I do is rustic. Oh! There goes the back. I'm feeling a bit rustic myself. Oh! So, basically all we're building is a really simple box or crate to store my magazines... My tradie magazines because I'm a tradie, and tradies don't read women's magazines, do they? That was embarrassing. And of course, it has to be out of recycled timbers, and I'm using old hardwood fence palings, but you could use something like an old pallet to give the same effect. Now, you can make your magazine rack any size you like, but mine is going to be 550 millimetres long which is about 21-1/2 inches. It's going to be 300 millimetres wide which is about 12 inches, and about 240 millimetres high which is about 9-1/2 inches. Let's cut these pieces. And to make the crate a bit more interesting and a bit more rustic looking, I'm going to cut two of these boards down to 45 millimetres wide or about 1-3/4 inches.  With the pieces all cut, it's now time to give them all a really good sand prior to assembly.

Now, Modern Wood Bed Frame Designs before I assemble the crate, I'm gonna add some colour. Now, I've got some yellow poster paint, that's all I'm using, some poster paint that the kids use at school, and some white poster paint. It doesn't really matter what you use. And then we'll sand that back to give it that nice, rustic look. Now the yellow is going to go on two of the short pieces and two of the long pieces, and the white is going to go on the other two short pieces and two long pieces. So just slap the paint on. There's no real science to it. It's meant to look rustic. So the old hit and miss method is pretty effective, suits me down to a T. So there you go, just like that. And once it's all dry, we'll give her a sand back. Beautiful. So just grab your paint, and it's the same with the white. Just slap it on. Now, if you like... And this paint is now dry... You can just grab some of the contrasting colour and just put a few dabs on it here and there. Just like a few dabs, just like that, and that'll sand back beautifully. Now, when trying to make something rustic with paint, just remember that there's no right or wrong way to do it. It's just about layering. Put some paint on, sand it back.

If you like the look of it, fantastic. If you don't, put some more paint on it. It's pretty simple. The paint's now dry, and this timber is ready to sand back to give it that beautiful, rustic look. Now, Modern Wooden Bed Design Ideas I've had to duck inside because outside you can probably hear it is pouring with rain. So hopefully, fingers crossed, the lighting in here is good enough so you can see what I'm doing. Now, I'm going to sand these back with an 80 grit sandpaper.  Told you it was easy. 30 seconds later, and I've achieved that beautiful, rustic look which is exactly what I was after. I'm absolutely wrapped. Now all we need to do now is repeat that process to the rest of the painted boards and Bob's your uncle. So this is what we've finished up with. We have three lengths for the bottom, we have two ends, and we have two sides of the crate. And these shorter pieces here attach to the ends of the crate, just like that, and these will actually hold the whole thing together, which you'll see soon when we put this thing together. Let's do it. Now, the first step of the assembling process is to nail the two ends together, and they're nailed to these cleats here. Now, make sure that the side that you want to look at is facing up which I have here, and you'll also notice that this is sitting on a couple of blocks, and that's because when I nail this off, I don't want the nails to penetrate the work bench here.  Now you can see here how the nail's gone all the way through the two pieces of timber, and sticking out here. Now you can cut those nails off with some snips, or hacksaw, or even a grinder. Now with the ends assembled, it's time to attach the sides. Now remember, this is the inside with the cleat, and that's the outside. And now it's time to nail the sides off. And I'll like to use a square and put it on the inside of the end piece, just to make sure that it's sitting up nice and straight. And then we can nail it off.

Now in the words of Crocodile Dundee, Modern Wooden Bed Frames Uk "That's not a crate! This is a crate!" Look at that! It turned out absolutely fantastic, exactly how I wanted to. And to finish it off, all we need to do is give it a sand back with a 120 grit sandpaper. That'll make it nice and smooth, followed by two coats of satin polyurethane. Rub that back a little bit. And then to finish it off, I'll whack on some groovy wheels, and we're done. Now give it a brush down, and then once that's done, put on your polyurethane. So with my satin polyurethane, I'm gonna give it two coats. I can't believe I just did that at least I gave the old bench top a bit of a coat anyway. It's not all bad. So there you go, all done. And I reckon it turned out absolutely fantastic. Now to finish a job off, all I did was install some metal casters that I bought from Bunnings for about $3.50 each, something like that. And I also found these old handles in the back of the shed which I installed to both ends. And to give the whole unit a really authentic look, after the polyurethane dried, I got a 180 grit paper and gave it a light sand. And what that does, is that it takes off that sheen which then gives it the real aged look. And like I said at the start of the video, this would make a really great gift idea. Not only is it simple to make, but it's also very cost effective. And in my eyes that's a win-win all round. Billion years in the making. But it would have gone faster with Microjig Maker of the GRR-RIPPER. Work safer. Work smarter. I went through my scrap bin and pulled out a bunch of scrap pieces of half inch plywood for this project. And since this is a painted project, Modern Wooden Box Bed Designs
 I don't have to worry about the grain direction or the color of the plywood matching. The main challenge to this project is that every piece is a different size. I'm going to start by making a bunch of rectangles. You can cut these out using any kind of saw you happen to have. A circular saw... A jigsaw... A band saw... A table saw... Or you could even use a hand saw. Nah! Five of these pieces are squares. These are the shelves and I'm going to cut out the curves differently than I'm going to cut out the curves on the rectangles. The curve on each of the square shelves is just a quarter of a circle. To draw the circle, I'll find the center of the square by connecting the diagonals. The distance from the center of the square to the edge is the radius of the circle I'm going to draw. And I'm setting that using my beam compass. Cutting corners is easy with a jigsaw. Or a band saw. Or even a coping saw that I would hold like this if I had one. And there are all kinds of ways to sand these curves smooth. But actually, when it comes down to it, most people just prefer using hand sandpaper and a little bit of elbow grease. Okay, I just totally made that up. One corner of each of the upright vertical pieces gets a one inch radius. I'm going to join all of my shelves together using my pocket hole jig. I'm not really sure how to clamp this down while I put the screws in so I just put a board on top of the shelf so that I can push this up against it and hold it in place.

I'll see if that works. I'm just trying to be super careful that I don't go so far that it comes through the other side. Those pocket screws will be hidden because this side goes against the wall. It's turning out really handy to have my plans available while I'm trying to put this all together so I can kind of visualize how it fits together. But I guess it doesn;t really matter. It looks like I'm going to have to make up this clamping strategy as I go along but it looks like if I just lay this on its side, I can clamp this together and put the screws in. And really, that's the only tricky part about using pocket screws. You've got to clap your pieces together to hold them in place while you put the screws in or they'll just slide around. And I'm only putting these in until I feel a little bit of resistance. because they will go all the way through if I'm not careful. Now I can start working my way up. That was kind of tricky. After letting that sit overnight, it's surprisingly strong. Of course, you could certainly make those joints as complicated as you like.
